Map of 1890's District Railroads

Three major railroads, along with several spurs and electric street cars,
served as the arteries of the mining district. The last rail service was shut down in 1949 when the Midland Terminal made its final run through Ute Pass.
This black & white line drawing has been reprinted full-size and half size on 32-pound presentation bond. Thanks to architects Andrews & Anderson for granting permission to reproduce these drawings.

Cresson Ore Sorting Drawings - Set of 4

During November, 1914, miners working on the twelfth level discovered the legendary Cresson Vug, which in four weeks produced $1.2 million in gold (1915 prices).  For the rest of the decade, the Cresson operated under a new company, the Cresson Consolidated Gold Mining and Milling Company, with A.E. Carlton, Spencer Penrose and Roelof as major stockholders. Under Carlton's ownership the Cresson remained an active, leading producer of the District until 1961. Today the Cresson is the largest surface gold mine in Colorado and is still producing a wealth of ore.
These detailed drawings show how turn-of-the-century miners sorted by hand higher grade ore from lower grade ore. They also include historical descriptions of the process and details of the Cresson Mine structures.
