Come stay in this authentic miner's cabin, a
short six-mile drive to Cripple Creek where gaming, the Butte Opera
House and mines tours offer an adventure into the gold rush past.
The Thompson cabin was originally built in the Ajax Mine on one of the
lower levels as a office. In the 1940s, Joseph Thompson had it
dismantled and rebuilt it in the Athletic Field where the baseball
park is, now often referred to as the Gold Bowl. In 1996 it was move
from the gold bowl to its current location. The current owners Joe &
Marjie Stevens, who operate and run the Colorado Trading and Transfer
Company of Victor, have refurbished the cabin with antiques and
furnished it in such a way to retain its history.
The Thompson Cabin is completely furnished for your comfort and is
suitable for two. The kitchen has an 8' counter with a double sink,
microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot and dishes. There is stove with
oven and refrigerator. For heat the cabin has both electric and
propane. There is a television with Direct TV for your enjoyment.
A circa 1900 wood cooking stove is used as a table for the TV. There
is an antique table with the two ends can be opened up for more space.
The bed is of cast iron.
The bathroom has a single sink, medicine cabinet with mirror, shower
and stool.
The cabin is located about 200' from the road so it tends to be
quieter there than most places.
Outside are a picnic table and benches for your enjoyment.

Enjoy breath taking views of the Sango De Cristo and Collegiate
mountain ranges. A short 2 1/2-mile drive up the American Eagles road
offers spectacular views of the Continental Divide, Pikes Peak and
modern and historic mining operations.
Skaguay Reservoir is about 7 miles away ad is perfect for fishing and
boating. Throughout the district are interpretive trails relating the
history of the Gold Mining District.
The elevation up here is 9717" so bring warm clothing to enjoy your
outings.
