Auction Item List...

Supporter of the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum:

The Victor Lowell Thomas Museum board of directors sends a huge thanks to the Victor Elks, Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company and the communities of Victor and Cripple Creek for their generous support! It is most overwhelming to be the recipient of such generosity in times and places where pocketbooks are not plush.

March 8 the Victor Elks Lodge #367 sponsored a fundraiser for the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum. Funds raised will help match grants to stabilize the museum's north wall and upper floor. The evening was filled with fun, great food and a lively auction of over 150 items donated for sale.

When the final tally of funds raised March 8 came in, we were astounded at the generosity of our community in southern Teller County.

Over $10,000 was raised that night - proceeds from a delicious spaghetti dinner attended by 145 people, donations made by friends, residents and business owners, and purchases at the auction.

We would like to extend a huge thanks to Jesse Bielz and the Victor Elks - without them this event would never have happened.

A huge thanks to Tish Allen and the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company - Tish bid on the 1885 Winchester rifle on behalf of CC&V, and then the mining company donated it back for re-auction. That meant twice the money was raised on this item. Reed Grainger - thanks for donating that wonderful antique gun; Hanks Heritage - thanks for purchasing it. Thanks to Jane Mannon of CC&V for funding from her budget that rifle purchase/re-auction and the donation of a 1/2 ounce gold coin, and purchase of other items.

Thanks to our anonymous donor who generously matched up to $5000 - thanks to all who attended, assisted and purchased we made that goal by twice! With the match we raised $15,139 on March 8.

Thanks to our treasurer Nancy Hanks, who along with Karen & Sam Morrison, clerked the auction; to Serena Bielz and our VP Jon Zalewski who kept the bidders bidding and the auction moving; to Jesse Bielz and Jason Sipma for auctioneering; to Jean Beckman and crew for cooking; to Mary Bielz for decorating and cooking; to Mike Halterman for the donation of the bronze sculpture and the Travelers for donating the music; to Ed Hunter and Chris Hanks for their assistance; to the Pikes Peak Courier View for donating and and all the media who helped promote the event; and to everyone who made this event happen.

Thanks to ALL OF YOU WHO DONATED ITEMS FOR THE AUCTION!!! And those who attended.

This event was made possible by a lot of people working together, by a dedicated bunch of volunteers at the Elks, by our board of directors, by a lot of Victorites and southern Teller folks who came together for dinner and fun to support a common ground - saving our museum and our heritage. And it was made possible by the entire community of southern Teller County - we had participants and donations from Victor, Cripple Creek, Goldfield, and areas in between and beyond.

Thanks to all who sent monetary donations large and small and memberships and have offered to help. Every dollar counts in this project.

When we save this museum, we save a cornerstone 1899 building which has housed our heritage for nearly 40 years, and we preserve that heritage as a showcase for present and future generations.

Thanks for all your support.
